CWM is ClockworkMod Recovery, secondary recover for android device produced by Kosh.
It is based on the eclair recovery. Features include Nandroid backup, advanced update.zip, and adb shell. advanced update.zip is (ignore asserts and signature checks), and file browser to select update.zip. ClockworkMod also known as CWM, and CW clockwork recovery.
